The tongue is a muscular organ located in the mouth that plays an important role in tasting, chewing, and swallowing food. It is made up of a complex network of muscles, nerves, and blood vessels.

The surface of the tongue is covered with small bumps called papillae, which contain taste buds. Taste buds are sensory receptors that allow us to detect different flavors, such as sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami (savory). The tongue can also detect temperature and texture, which are important for enjoying food.

The tongue is connected to the floor of the mouth by a thin strip of tissue called the frenulum. When the frenulum is too short or tight, it can cause a condition called tongue-tie, which can interfere with breastfeeding or speech development in children.

Several conditions can affect the tongue, including infections, such as thrush or oral herpes, and tongue cancer, which is a type of oral cancer that can develop on the tongue. Other conditions that can affect the tongue include canker sores, tongue ulcers, and glossitis, which is an inflammation of the tongue.

Treatment for tongue conditions may include medication, oral hygiene measures, and in some cases, surgery. Good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, can help prevent many tongue problems. If you notice any unusual changes or symptoms in your tongue, it's important to see a healthcare professional for an evaluation.

জিহ্বা মুখের মধ্যে অবস্থিত একটি পেশীবহুল অঙ্গ যা খাবারের স্বাদ গ্রহণ, চিবানো এবং গিলতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। এটি পেশী, স্নায়ু এবং রক্তনালীগুলির একটি জটিল নেটওয়ার্ক দ্বারা গঠিত।

জিহ্বার পৃষ্ঠটি প্যাপিলি নামক ছোট খোসা দিয়ে আবৃত থাকে, যাতে স্বাদের কুঁড়ি থাকে। স্বাদ কুঁড়ি হল সংবেদনশীল রিসেপ্টর যা আমাদের বিভিন্ন স্বাদ সনাক্ত করতে দেয়, যেমন মিষ্টি, টক, নোনতা, তেতো এবং উমামি (সুস্বাদু)। জিহ্বা তাপমাত্রা এবং গঠন সনাক্ত করতে পারে, যা খাবার উপভোগ করার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

জিহ্বা মুখের মেঝেতে ফ্রেনুলাম নামক টিস্যুর পাতলা ফালা দ্বারা সংযুক্ত থাকে। যখন ফ্রেনুলাম খুব ছোট বা আঁটসাঁট হয়, তখন এটি জিহ্বা-টাই নামক একটি অবস্থার কারণ হতে পারে, যা শিশুদের বুকের দুধ খাওয়ানো বা বক্তৃতা বিকাশে হস্তক্ষেপ করতে পারে।

বেশ কিছু অবস্থা জিহ্বাকে প্রভাবিত করতে পারে, যেমন থ্রাশ বা ওরাল হারপিস এবং জিহ্বা ক্যান্সারের মতো সংক্রমণ, যা জিহ্বায় বিকশিত হতে পারে এমন এক ধরনের মুখের ক্যান্সার। জিহ্বাকে প্রভাবিত করতে পারে এমন অন্যান্য অবস্থার মধ্যে রয়েছে ক্যানকার ঘা, জিহ্বার আলসার এবং গ্লসাইটিস, যা জিহ্বার প্রদাহ।
