Cerebral hemispheres Brain - Diseases

The cerebral hemispheres, also known as the cerebrum, are the two largest structures in the brain and are divided into left and right hemispheres. They are responsible for a variety of functions, including sensory processing, motor control, language, memory, emotion, and consciousness.

Each hemisphere is further divided into four lobes: the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe. The frontal lobe is responsible for executive functions such as decision-making, planning, and impulse control. The parietal lobe processes sensory information such as touch and spatial awareness. The temporal lobe is involved in memory and auditory processing, while the occipital lobe is responsible for visual processing.

The two hemispheres communicate with each other through a structure called the corpus callosum, which allows for integration of information and coordinated control of both sides of the body. Damage to the cerebral hemispheres can result in a range of deficits depending on the location and severity of the injury, such as sensory or motor impairment, language difficulties, or changes in behavior and personality.
