However, if the biliary colic is caused by a severe blockage or infection, surgery may be necessary to remove the gallbladder or clear the duct.

Prevention of biliary colic involves maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, as obesity and a high-fat diet can increase the risk of developing gallstones. Additionally, avoiding rapid weight loss or fasting, and managing underlying conditions such as diabetes, can also help reduce the risk of biliary colic.
