“May all be happy, may all be healed, may all be at peace and may no one ever suffer."
Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a condition that can occur when you travel to high altitudes, usually above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). The decreased air pressure and oxygen levels at high altitudes can lead to symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping. In more severe cases, altitude sickness can cause shortness of breath, chest tightness, confusion, and difficulty walking. The best way to prevent altitude sickness is to ascend slowly, allowing your body time to adjust to the altitude. If symptoms do occur, resting, staying hydrated, and descending to a lower altitude can help alleviate them. In severe cases, oxygen therapy or medications such as acetazolamide may be necessary.
