Allergic conjunctivitis - Generics

Allergic conjunctivitis is a type of eye inflammation caused by an allergic reaction to certain substances, such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or certain types of medications. It occurs when the conjunctiva, which is the clear tissue that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelids, becomes swollen and inflamed.

Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis may include:

  • Redness and itching of the eyes
  • Watery or teary eyes
  • Swelling and puffiness of the eyelids
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Blurred vision
  • A burning or gritty sensation in the eyes

Treatment for allergic conjunctivitis may include avoiding the allergen that is causing the reaction, using over-the-counter or prescription antihistamine eye drops, or using other medications to reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms. In some cases, immunotherapy, such as allergy shots, may be recommended to help desensitize the immune system to the allergen. It is important to see an eye doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.
