হাইওসিয়েমাসের রােগী রােগাক্রমণের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বা অনতিবিলম্বে এত দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে যে, সে তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্নভাবে পড়ে থাকতে বাধ্য হয়। জ্বর খুব বেশী নয়, অথচ তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্নভাব এবং তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্নভাবে সর্বদাই আবােল-তাবােল কত কি বকে যেতে থাকে বা নানাবিধ অঙ্গভঙ্গী করতে থাকে। অবশ্য রােগের প্রথম অবস্থায় বা যতক্ষণ না সে একেবারে নিস্তেজ হয়ে পড়ে, ততক্ষণ আমরা তাহার মধ্যে মারতে যাওয়া, কামড়াতে চাওয়া, বিছানা হতে লাফিয়ে পড়া ইত্যাদি প্রলাপের প্রচণ্ডতা লক্ষ্য করি; কিন্তু এরূপভাবে বেশীক্ষণ স্থায়ী হতে পারে না, অনতিবিলম্বে সে তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্নভাবে পড়ে থাকতে বাধ্য হয়। হাইওসিয়েমাসের রােগী প্রায় সর্বদাই নগ্ন বা উলঙ্গ থাকতে চায়, জননেন্দ্রিয়ের উপর কোনরূপ আবরণ রাখতে চায় না। সর্বদাই তাহা লয়ে নাড়াচাড়া করতে, অশ্লীল গান গাইতে ও অশ্লীল কথা বলতে থাকে। জলাতঙ্কও খুব বেশী। জল দেখিলেই সে ভয়ে শিউরে ওঠে। মুখ শুকিয়ে কাঠ হয়ে যায়, জিহ্বা শুকিয়ে শক্ত চামড়ার মত হয়ে যায়, তথাপি সে জল খেতে চায় না, জলের নাম শুনিলেও সে ভয় পেতে থাকে। অবশ্য ফ্ল্যামােনিয়াম এবং বেলেভােনাতে ইহা খুব বেশী।
