Intrauterine growth retardation - Generics

Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) is a condition in which a developing fetus does not grow at the expected rate during pregnancy. This may be due to a variety of factors, including problems with the placenta, fetal malformations or genetic abnormalities, maternal illness, or environmental factors such as poor nutrition or exposure to toxins.

IUGR can be diagnosed during pregnancy through ultrasound measurements of fetal growth and estimated fetal weight. Infants with IUGR are at increased risk for a range of health problems, including prematurity, low birth weight, and developmental delays. They may also have an increased risk of certain chronic diseases later in life, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Treatment for IUGR depends on the underlying cause and the severity of the condition. In some cases, close monitoring of fetal growth and maternal health may be sufficient, while in more severe cases, delivery may be necessary to prevent further harm to the fetus. In some cases, fetal growth may be stimulated through interventions such as improved maternal nutrition, medication, or in rare cases, fetal blood transfusions.

Prevention of IUGR involves maintaining good maternal health and avoiding exposure to toxins, including tobacco smoke and certain medications. Pregnant women should also receive regular prenatal care and undergo appropriate testing to detect and manage any conditions that may contribute to IUGR.

It is important for women who have previously had a baby with IUGR or who have risk factors for the condition to receive close monitoring during subsequent pregnancies to ensure optimal fetal growth and development.

গর্ভাবস্থায় ভ্রূণের বৃদ্ধি এবং আনুমানিক ভ্রূণের ওজনের আল্ট্রাসাউন্ড পরিমাপের মাধ্যমে IUGR নির্ণয় করা যেতে পারে। আইইউজিআর সহ শিশুরা অকালতা, কম জন্ম ওজন এবং বিকাশে বিলম্ব সহ বিভিন্ন ধরণের স্বাস্থ্য সমস্যার জন্য ঝুঁকিতে থাকে। পরবর্তী জীবনে তাদের কিছু দীর্ঘস্থায়ী রোগের ঝুঁকিও থাকতে পারে, যেমন ডায়াবেটিস এবং কার্ডিওভাসকুলার রোগ।

যেসব মহিলার পূর্বে IUGR সহ একটি বাচ্চা হয়েছে বা যাদের এই অবস্থার জন্য ঝুঁকির কারণ রয়েছে তাদের জন্য পরবর্তী গর্ভাবস্থায় ভ্রূণের সর্বোত্তম বৃদ্ধি এবং বিকাশ নিশ্চিত করার জন্য নিবিড় পর্যবেক্ষণ করা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
