রাত্রে বৃদ্ধি সিফিলিসেরই চরিত্রগত লক্ষণ, তাই সিফিলিনামেরও ইহা শ্রেষ্ঠ পরিচয়। রােগ যাই হােক না কেন, যদি তা প্রতি রাতেই বৃদ্ধি পেতে থাকে এবং দিনে কোন উপদ্ৰবই থাকে না এমন হয় তা হলে সিফিলিনামের কথা মনে করা অন্যায় হবে না। দিবাভাগে তার প্রায় কোন যন্ত্রণাই থাকে না। সিফিলিনামে নিদ্রার লেশ পর্যন্ত থাকে না, রােগী প্রায় সারারাত্রিই জেগে কাটায়। অবশ্য রাত্রে তার যন্ত্রণা বৃদ্ধি পায় বলে নিদ্রা সম্ভবপরও নয়।সিফিলিসের সাথে পক্ষাঘাতের খুব ঘনিষ্ঠতা দেখা যায়। চোখের পাতায় পক্ষাঘাতবশতঃ পাতা ঝুলে পড়ে, মুখে পক্ষাঘাতবশতঃ মুখ বেঁকে যায়, জিহ্বায় পক্ষাঘাতবশতঃ কথা জড়িয়ে যায়, পক্ষাঘাতবশতঃ কোষ্ঠবদ্ধতা, মলদ্বার ঝুলিয়া পড়ে। 

শারীরিক ও মানসিক খর্বতা। সিফিলিটিক শিশুর দৈহিক গঠনে বা অঙ্গ-সৌষ্ঠবে সামঞ্জস্য থাকে না। মাথার হাড়গুলি কোথাও উচু, কোথাও নীচু, অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গ কোথাও বক্র, কোথাও ক্ষতযুক্ত ; ক্ষত দুর্গন্ধময়। মুখে ঘা, অজীর্ণদোষ, চোখে আলােক সহ্য হয় না, রাত্রে নাক বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।

সিফিলিনামের দেহে জন্মাবধি নানাবিধ ক্ষত বা চর্মরােগ দেখা দেয়। ক্ষত গভীরতর হয়ে আস্থি আক্রমণ করে বা অস্থি আক্রমণ করে পরে বাইরে প্রকাশ পায়। গলা বা ঘাড়ের চারিদিকে ফুলে শক্ত হয়ে ওঠে, টনসিলের বিদ্ধি।

সিফিলিনাম, মেডােরিনাম, সােরিনাম, ব্যাসিলিনাম প্রভৃতি ঔষধগুলি ২০০ শক্তির নিম্নে ব্যবহার করা উচিত নয়
