তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্নভাব এত প্রবল যে তাকে ডেকেও সচেতন করা যায় না। যারা রােগের প্রথমাবস্থায় নিদ্রালুতা প্রকাশ করে তারা কোন কোন ক্ষেত্রে পরে নিদ্রাহীন হয়ে পড়ে এবং যারা রােগের প্রথম অবস্থায় নিদ্রাহীন থাকে তারা কোন কোন ক্ষেত্রে পরে গভীর নিদ্রায় অভিভূত হয়ে পড়ে।

নিদ্রালুতা এবং নিদ্রাকালে নাসিকাধ্বনি বা গলার মধ্যে ঘড়ঘড় শব্দ ওপিয়ামের শ্রেষ্ঠ লক্ষণ।

বােধ করি এই পক্ষাঘাত-সদৃশ দুর্বলতার জন্য রােগ প্রায় সর্বদাই তন্দ্রাচ্ছন্ন থাকে এবং তার কোন কষ্ট হতে থাকলেও সে তা অনুভব করতে পারে না।

দুর্বলতাবশতঃ ওপিয়াম রােগীর অত্যন্ত কোষ্ঠবদ্ধ হয় এবং মূত্ৰরোধও দেখা দেয়। মূত্রাবরোধ-বশতঃ রোগীর কষ্ট অনুভূতি থাকে না।

গরম ঘরে থাকতে বা গরম পােষাক পরতে সে কষ্টবােধ করে এবং তাহার অধিকাংশ যন্ত্রণা গরমেই বৃদ্ধি পায়, খাদ্যদ্রব্য গরম গরম খেলে তা সহজে হজম হয় না।
