Verruca - Generics

A verruca, also known as a wart, is a small growth that appears on the skin, typically on the hands or feet, but can occur anywhere on the body. It is caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV) which infects the top layer of skin and causes it to grow rapidly, resulting in a rough, hard, and sometimes painful growth.

Verrucas are common and can be spread from person to person through direct contact, such as sharing towels or walking barefoot in public places like locker rooms or swimming pools.

Treatment for verrucas can include topical medications such as salicylic acid or cryotherapy, which involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. In some cases, surgical removal or laser therapy may be necessary. It is important to note that verrucas can be difficult to treat and may require multiple treatments over a period of several weeks or months.

Prevention of verrucas includes avoiding direct contact with infected skin, wearing shoes or sandals in public areas like locker rooms and swimming pools, and keeping hands and feet clean and dry. If you suspect you have a verruca, it is important to seek medical attention for diagnosis and treatment, as leaving the verruca untreated can cause it to spread and become more difficult to treat.
