Intestinal or oropharyngeal candidiasis - Generics

Intestinal or oropharyngeal candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by the Candida species, typically Candida albicans. Candida normally lives in the body without causing any harm, but certain factors such as a weakened immune system, antibiotic use, or hormonal changes can cause it to overgrow and cause an infection.

Oropharyngeal candidiasis, also known as thrush, is characterized by white patches on the tongue, mouth, and throat, as well as difficulty swallowing and a burning sensation in the mouth. Intestinal candidiasis, also known as candida overgrowth syndrome or yeast overgrowth, can cause a variety of symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.

Treatment for intestinal or oropharyngeal candidiasis involves the use of antifungal medications such as fluconazole, nystatin, or amphotericin B. In addition to medication, it may be necessary to make dietary changes to avoid foods that promote the growth of Candida, such as sugar, refined carbohydrates, and alcohol. Probiotics may also be used to restore healthy gut flora and prevent the overgrowth of Candida.

Prevention of intestinal or oropharyngeal candidiasis involves maintaining good hygiene practices, avoiding unnecessary use of antibiotics, and managing underlying medical conditions that can weaken the immune system. People with diabetes, HIV, or other conditions that weaken the immune system are at a higher risk of developing candidiasis and should take extra precautions to prevent infection.
