- Insert the needle: Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the skin and insert the needle quickly and firmly into the muscle or subcutaneous tissue.
- Aspirate: Pull back slightly on the plunger of the syringe to check for blood. If blood appears in the syringe, withdraw the needle and choose a new injection site.

- Remove the needle: Quickly and smoothly remove the needle from the muscle or subcutaneous tissue.

- Insert the needle into the muscle or subcutaneous tissue at a 90-degree angle, using a smooth and steady motion.
- Once the needle is inserted into the tissue, aspirate to make sure you have not hit a blood vessel. If blood appears in the syringe, remove the needle and start over.
- Inject the medication slowly and steadily by pushing the plunger with your thumb or fingers.
- Withdraw the needle at the same angle it was inserted and apply pressure to the injection site with a gauze pad or cotton ball.
- Dispose of the used needle and syringe in a sharps container and remove your gloves.
