Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the large intestine (colon) and rectum. It involves the use of a long, flexible, lighted tube called a colonoscope, which is inserted through the rectum and guided through the colon to look for abnormalities such as polyps, tumors, or inflammation.

During a colonoscopy, the patient is typically sedated and lying on their side. The colonoscope is inserted through the rectum and guided through the colon while the physician examines the lining of the colon and rectum for abnormalities. If any abnormalities are detected, the physician may take a small tissue sample (biopsy) for further examination or remove any polyps found.

Colonoscopy is an important screening tool for detecting and preventing colorectal cancer, as well as for diagnosing and monitoring other gastrointestinal conditions. It is typically recommended for individuals over the age of 50, or earlier for those at higher risk of developing colorectal cancer due to family history or other factors.

While colonoscopy is generally considered a safe procedure, there are some risks, including bleeding or perforation of the colon. It is important for patients to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the procedure with their physician prior to undergoing colonoscopy.

কোলনোস্কোপি হল একটি চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতি যা বৃহৎ অন্ত্র (কোলন) এবং মলদ্বারের অভ্যন্তরীণ অংশ পরীক্ষা করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এটি একটি দীর্ঘ, নমনীয়, আলোকিত টিউব ব্যবহার করে যার নাম একটি কোলোনোস্কোপ, যা মলদ্বারের মাধ্যমে ঢোকানো হয় এবং পলিপ, টিউমার বা প্রদাহের মতো অস্বাভাবিকতাগুলি দেখতে কোলনের মাধ্যমে নির্দেশিত হয়।
